Happy Memorial Day!

Monday, May 27th, 2013

Every year on the final Monday of May, citizens of America come together to honor those who have served our country. Formerly known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day came to prominence after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen soldiers on either side. Although its origins are somewhat ambiguous, it has always been about bringing people together to recognize our country’s military personnel and history. We want to take this opportunity to thank all the men and women who have served our county.

Memorial Day also marks the beginning of summer. We hope that you have a wonderful day off, and that it is a great start to your summer!

Air Conditioning Repair Tip 1: What to Do if Your AC Breaks Down

Monday, May 20th, 2013

We rely heavily on our Atlanta, GA air conditioning systems to provide respite from the heat and humidity during the long hot summer. While many major repairs may be prevented by having an annual maintenance inspection, some problems are unpreventable and they require professional repair immediately. We’d like to share with you some things to do in the event that your AC breaks down. But when you need Atlanta, GA air conditioning repair service, don’t hesitate to call Air Conditioning Experts. We’ll make sure your home is cool again in no time.

  • Check your electrical panel: Make sure that you haven’t merely blown a fuse or tripped the circuit breaker. You might also try checking that any of the control board switches haven’t been accidentally turned off.
  • Check your thermostat: Make sure that your thermostat is calling for cool air, and that it seems to be working properly. A thermostat fault is a possible cause of a breakdown.
  • Check your air filter. Occasionally, your AC may have shut down if your evaporator coil freezes over into a block of ice. This type of automatic defrost shut-off varies from system to system, but it’s worth checking the air filter anyway.
  • Call a professional: Call a reputable AC technician who has the experience and training necessary to repair your air conditioning system. Don’t settle for anything less than excellence.
  • Consider replacement: When you speak to your AC professional about the condition of your system and the extent of the problem that caused the breakdown, you may want to weigh your options as to whether repairing or replacing would be preferable. If your current AC is old or requires frequent repairs, then you may be better off investing in a new highly energy efficient system rather than continuing to support an older system.

We hope this brief guide helps you, but a professional, hands-on diagnosis is the only way to understand what’s actually going on with your system. For excellent Atlanta, GA air conditioning repair, call the Air Conditioning Experts today!

  • Inadequate cooling: If your AC doesn’t work as nearly as well as it once did, or its cooling ability is unable to meet your needs, then there are many possible causes for this problem. Check your air filter to make sure that it is not dirty or clogged with dust and debris. If not, then there may be a problem with your thermostat. It may need to be recalibrated so that it triggering your AC when you need it.
  • AC won’t start: If your AC won’t start, it could be either electrical or a thermostat problem. Check to see if your thermostat is calling for cool air, and adjust accordingly. If that doesn’t work, it may not be communicating with your air handler. Also, there is the possibility of an electrical fault within your power supply; perhaps a damaged wire. Electricity can be hazardous so make sure that you hire a certified professional to perform any repairs.
  • Low refrigerant: Like all air conditioners and heat pumps, your central AC relies on the refrigerant cycle to cool your indoor living space. The refrigerant pumped by your compressor through the system of coils needs to be of a certain level—that’s known as its “charge.” If your system is low on refrigerant, then your system will not operate properly.

This list is by no means exhaustive. For more information about central AC, or to schedule air conditioning repair in Atlanta, call Air Conditioning Experts today!

Tips for Efficient Air Conditioning in Atlanta

Monday, May 6th, 2013

Homeowners throughout the Atlanta area are always looking for tips to make their home cooling more efficient. While we cannot control the cost of electricity, we can control how much electricity we use. For efficient air conditioning in Atlanta, call Air Conditioning Experts today!

Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your AC this summer:

  • Enroll in a maintenance program: It makes sense to let a pro worry about the details of your AC. A maintenance program gives them the opportunity to thoroughly inspect, clean and tune-up your system biannually, so that your heating and cooling systems are fully taken care of. The Comfort Club Membership also includes a 15% discount on parts and labor. Prevention is the best path towards efficient air conditioning, especially considering how much use your Atlanta AC gets during the long cooling season.
  • Clean and replace your air filter: During peak cooling times, you need to change your air filter at least once a month. Not only will this improve your indoor air quality, but it will also allow uninhibited airflow between your air handler and your living space. A clean air filter goes a long way to improving system performance and energy efficiency.
  • Clean and clear: If any vegetation has begun encroaching on your outdoor unit, spring’s great time to clear a space around it so that it can adequately dissipate the heat pulled from the interior of your home. Even the most minor obstruction can cause your system to work harder and reduce efficiency. Speak to a professional for more advice about what you should and should not attempt to clean.

For more information, talk to your local AC tech. For Atlanta air conditioning services, call Air Conditioning Experts today!
