Why Choose Radiant Floor Heating in Atlanta?

Monday, October 27th, 2014

There are a lot of heating systems available for homeowners these days. One such system is radiant floor heating. Radiant floor heating is very popular, and for some very good reasons. Because of the layout of radiant floor heating, it is important to hire professionals who have experience with radiant heat installation in Atlanta; this way, you are ensured that the system will be installed efficiently and correctly. For almost 20 years, Air Conditioning Experts, Inc., has installed every kind of heating system, including radiant systems. Considering the installation of a radiant heating system? Call us today!

How a Radiant System Works

There are a few ways radiant floor heating works. At Air Conditioning Experts, Inc., the main sources of heat for our radiant systems are hot water and steam, so our systems use boilers. Boilers can be fueled by natural gas or oil. When your heat turns on, the water in the boiler is heated to a certain temperature; steam boilers have a small dome that captures the steam as it heats. Once the steam or hot water reaches the correct temperature, circulating pumps push the steam or hot water through piping to the tubing that forms that radiant heating system. The tubing is made of durable PEX plastic, and it is typically installed underneath the flooring in your home, but it can also be placed behind walls and above ceilings. The hot water or steam travels through the tubes, where the heat is released through the surfaces. When the hot water or steam cools (the steam turns into water), it returns to the boiler for another heating cycle.

Benefits of Radiant Heating

There are several benefits to radiant heating:

  • Comfortable heat – the heat from a radiant system is gradual and comfortable because it radiates, as opposed to blowing in as forced air does.
  • Quiet operation – except for the sound of the boiler heating the water, a radiant system is silent.
  • No circulating dust – radiant systems are closed systems, and do not circulate dust and other possible contaminants as a forced air system can.
  • Distribution points are out of sight – with a radiant floor heating system, all the tubing is hidden, so there are no visible registers or radiators, which can help with room décor.

When Should I Schedule Gas Furnace Maintenance?

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014

Your gas furnace was built to last for a long period of time, but it cannot stay in perfect condition forever. That’s why it’s important to do what you can to maintain your gas furnace so that it continues to run as it should for as long as possible. There are a few things you can do on your own to maintain your furnace, such as changing the furnace filter regularly and watching out for repair needs, but you should also be sure to schedule regular gas furnace maintenance with a trained professional. Here are just a few of the reasons why:

  • Keep Your Home Safe: Perhaps the most important reason to schedule gas furnace maintenance is to keep your home safe from gas leaks. A gas leak is a major health hazard, and natural gas is combustible, which means a home fire or an explosion is a possibility. If you suspect a gas leak due to strange smells or sounds, leave the home immediately and call your utility company. To keep this from happening, contact us for maintenance every year to ensure that your gas line is not compromised.
  • Prevent Repair Needs: There may be more problems with a gas furnace besides potential gas leaks. A problem with the fan or the thermocouple could keep you from getting the warmth you need and cause parts to wear down.
  • Extend the Lifespan of Your Unit: As parts obtain standard wear and tear over time, you may notice reduced performance, until the parts become so overworked that your unit breaks down. Keep parts from failing entirely by scheduling regular furnace maintenance with a professional.
  • Improve Efficiency: Finally, a worn down unit will perform very inefficiently, costing you more money every month on your heating bills. A thorough cleaning, adjustment, and inspection, all of which come standard with maintenance, restores efficiency and helps out the environment.

Gas furnaces are some of the most popular units in the United States because they are fairly inexpensive as far as whole-home heating is concerned. However, you can only keep monthly costs low by scheduling regular maintenance.

Help your unit run efficiently for years to come by calling Air Conditioning Experts, Inc. for professional gas furnace maintenance in Decatur.

Signs that You Need Radiant Heat Repair

Monday, October 20th, 2014

A radiant heating system is one of the best ways to keep your family comfortable throughout the winter months. Radiant systems use a hot water system that runs through various areas of the house producing heat at a boiler and distributing it from a unit such as a radiator or baseboard or by running the hot water through a piping system installed underneath the floorboards for ultimate whole-home comfort. These are also very efficient systems and may need few repairs over time.

Eventually, however, it is likely that you will need radiant heat repair at some point in the life of your system. Call Air Conditioning Experts, Inc. whenever you have an issue with your heating system in Atlanta, and look out for the following signs.

  • Water Leaks: One of the telltale signs of problems with a radiant heating system is water leaks. Water may leak from various components of your boiler or from any of the connected pipes that transport hot water to your home. Some leaks require minor adjustments or parts replacements, such as replacing the pressure relief valve or screwing in loose bolts. Unfortunately, leaks from the boiler tank itself could indicate a serious problem. Corrosion or leaks are often beyond repairs, and may indicate you need a new system.
  • Decreased Performance: If you don’t feel enough heat or any heat from your boiler, it could be due to a water leak. Without enough hot water, your unit has no way of transferring hot water into your home. But it could also point to some other issues, perhaps with the pump or the thermostat that monitors the boiler temperature.
  • Uneven Heating: Many people prefer heating their homes via boilers since forced air heating systems have trouble delivering heat evenly in every area of the house. While forced air heating systems distribute air through the ductwork, radiant heating systems give off heat from a radiator or from underneath the floorboards, emitting heat into all areas of a room. So if you notice uneven heating, it indicates a problem. This could be an issue with the pump, the part responsible for circulating hot water.

Contact Air Conditioning Experts, Inc. when you notice any of these signs that indicate the need for radiant heat repair in Atlanta. Our technicians are trained to address all your heating needs.

How Maintenance Prevents the Need for Heating Repair

Monday, October 13th, 2014

How nice would it be to know that your heating system would never break down? While the likelihood of this happening is nonexistent, there is a way to help prevent repair needs from developing: schedule maintenance for your heating system in Atlanta. A maintenance appointment is equivalent to a tune-up for your heating system, and not only does this help prevent the need for heating repair, it offers several other important benefits. Fall is a great time to schedule a maintenance appointment, so if you haven’t schedule yours yet, call Air Conditioning Experts, Inc. today!

How Maintenance Helps Your Heating System

When you hire a professional, trained technician to perform maintenance on your heating system, he/she isn’t going to just do a quick once-over and leave. During a maintenance appointment a number of things happen, including:

  • A thorough inspection
  • Cleaning and adjusting
  • Lubrication of all moving parts
  • Safety testing
  • Detection of any existing or developing problems

The cleaning and adjusting of components helps prevent repairs by keeping things in good working order. Dirty, worn components cannot work as they should, and maintenance ensures that things are working optimally, which helps prevent repair. Additionally, when moving parts are lubricated, this reduces the chances that friction can develop, which can lead to breakdown. The thorough inspection allows the technician to detect any kinds of problems. He/she may repair them during the maintenance appointment if possible, but if not, you’ll be made aware of the situation so you can arrange for repair at another date. This helps get you ahead of problems that could become worse.

Other Benefits of Maintenance

  • Better energy efficiency – a system that operates with substantial wear and tear, and a layer of dirt and dust, will not be able to function at the efficiency level at which it was designed. The cleaning, adjusting and lubrication that occurs during a maintenance appointment allows the system to run optimally, which helps regain energy efficiency.
  • Extends lifespan of equipment – maintenance keeps your system in good working order, which helps reduce the level of wear and tear. Reducing the level of wear and tear on your system helps to keep it from prematurely aging.

It’s recommended that homeowners schedule annual heating maintenance.

If you haven’t made an appointment for heating system maintenance in Atlanta yet, call the heating system experts at Air Conditioning Experts, Inc. today!

Types of Tools Professionals Use for Duct Cleaning

Monday, October 6th, 2014

Duct cleaning in Atlanta involves a lot more than just vacuuming some of the ductwork and cleaning the registers. The trained specialists at Air Conditioning Experts, Inc., use several types of professional-grade tools to thoroughly clean your entire ductwork system. Duct cleaning in Atlanta has several important benefits, but these benefits can only be achieved when your system is properly cleaned. Think it’s time for a professional duct cleaning? Call the people you can trust: Air Conditioning Experts, Inc.

Tools Professionals Use

Here is an overview of what kinds of tools a trained technician may bring to a scheduled duct cleaning:

  • Access tools
  • Inspection tools
  • High-powered HEPA truck-mounted vacuum (also known as an air sweep)
  • Hand-held, professional-grade vacuums (typically HEPA)
  • Vacuum collection devices
  • Pneumatic tools
  • Visual equipment
  • Mechanical brushes

How Is Duct Cleaning Performed?

There are several steps involved with professional duct cleaning:

  • The technician will open the access ports in the ductwork.
  • A thorough inspection is performed, possibly using visual equipment.
  • Air sweep is employed.
  • Technician will inspect again.
  • Any observed pockets of debris, dust and dirt will be removed, as well as any sticking debris; this may be done with the use of hand-held vacuums, mechanical brushes and/or pneumatic tools.
  • A last inspection will be performed to confirm ductwork has been cleaned as needed.
  • All contaminants will be removed with proper collection devices.
  • Coverings will be removed.

What Are the Benefits of Duct Cleaning?

There are several benefits you can gain from a professional duct cleaning:

  • Better energy efficiency – dirt and dust build-up in your system can restrict air flow. Any time the air flow in your system is restricted, your system has to work harder to achieve the temperature you’ve set. When your system works harder, it uses more energy.
  • Better indoor air quality – any contaminants in your ductwork will blow directly into your living spaces every time your system operates. Removing these contaminants with a professional duct cleaning reduces these contaminants, which helps improve indoor air quality.
  • Less wear on your system – when your system operates under stress for long periods of time, as it can when the ductwork has a great deal of build-up, this stress can prematurely age your system. Cleaning your ductwork reduces the build-up and helps alleviate any stress it may be causing.

Having clean ductwork is important to you and the proper operation of your system. If you need professional duct cleaning in Atlanta, call Air Conditioning Experts, Inc., and schedule an appointment today.
